General Description: An unusual, low or spreading plant with very large yellow pea flowers. Leaflets are held in threes. Leaves are hairless, dull green with margins rolled under.

Flowers and Fruit: Bright yellow pea flowers, to 20 mm long. Flowers from September to April, fruit is an ovoid, hairless pod, to 15 x 10 mm.

Site Preference and Tolerances: Prefers dry rocky sites and high slopes it likes well drained gravelly soils in heathlands and dry forests. This species tolerates both light frosts and semi shade.

Life Span: Short to medium

Wildlife Value: Insect attracting and provides seed for ants and seed eating fauna.

Other Values and Uses: An attractive plant for gardens, rockeries and containers. Flowers are well displayed and can be planted in groups and pruned to encourage bushiness.

Germination Information: Need to break seed dormancy and heat treatment using just boiled water is usually used. I prefer to pour just boiled water over the seed and leave it for at least half an hour to ensure the seedcoat is cracked and the seed has taken in some water.
