General Description: A tufted, narrow-leafed, pale green, perennial grass with erect flower stems to 70 cm tall. Flower spike is narrow with bristly flowers at the top.

Flowers and Fruit: Moderately dense light brownish spikelets, flowers from October to February.

Site Preference and Tolerances: Found in plains grassland, red gum woodland and dry and valley forests often on heavier soils. Is adaptable to all but very wet soil conditions.

Life Span: This is a perennial grass that is thought to be short-lived but persists well in the Australian environment by replacing itself from seed.

Wildlife Value: Good habitat for small animals, insects, lizards and birds. Provides food for seed and insect eating fauna.
